Wow, uh. Those aren’t… the best possible examples. The best part is the guy being puzzled at the Monstar on the Donkey Kong scaffold.
I wonder how long it’ll take for someone to post a video that demonstrates something interesting about the game.

The thing with Charles Hartley seems to have fallen through, so my current thought is to do a Plan B where we record interesting footage from the game and then narrate over it to explain the gameplay.
I hadn’t done this before now because the visuals were still being heavily worked on. But they are getting pretty close now. Seeing these videos being posted makes me think, hmm, maybe should have done them by now!
(The guy being puzzled was me — I was just doing that to explain to the 1up guys what was going on and what the puzzle was.)

Ah. So there was conversation going on while this was being recorded? That would explain a few things.
I was just talking to David about attract demos where the character starts off playing rationally, then spends thirty seconds jumping in place before running straight into a spike and dying. The end effect of these clips is similar.
As an alternative to voiceover, you could occasionally freeze-frame the game and overlay some text. Maybe an arrow or two. That might do a better job at replicating the thought process of playing. Maybe!

Oh! The text could even be in the first-person, from Tim’s perspective!
That might be neat.

Dinosaurs.

Sexcellent stuff, David!
I swung through to see what you’ve been up to, and I’ve spent the last ten minutes bopping around your site and the games’, looking for everything I could find that you’ve done for this, it’s really beautiful work.
The game looks/sounds cool, too. I don’t know anyone with an xbox, so that blows, but whatayagonnado. I don’t really play a lot of video games anymore, but I’ve said all along that they were a huge part of why I started drawing as a kid. It’s fantastic to see people doing something creative with them; I feel like as a media/artform they’re still largely untapped, and a lot of the stigma surrounding most of the videogame world’s shootemup stereotypes remains largely deserved (if that makes sense…?).
I love that sandcastle image you did, and that first video’s fun. The sun! Phenomenal. I really liked the tune? Who did that? It’s nice.
Anyway, sorry for the dissertation, it’s probably the coffee, I’m getting excited about everything today.
